(ATR) The Vancouver 2010 flame departs Toronto making its way through Ontario after being diverted from its original route due to protests.

On Thursday the torch relay reached Toronto, Canada’s biggest city.

Bollywood star Akshay Kumar did not finish the length of his run due to protesters blocking one end of Yonge Street, causing a one-hour-delay. Police diverted the route and removed the shouting protesters. The protesters are against the the Olympics being held on lands taken away from aboriginal tribes..

Today, the torch relay departs Toronto and travels to the towns of Aurora and then through Newmarket where a welcome celebration is planned at the Magna Centre and will include the Georgina Island Drummers among other performances.

The torch progresses on to Sharon, Keswick, Bradford, Nobleton and Bolton where shooting Olympian Avianna Chao will run with the Olympic Flame.

The flame continues travel to Nashville, Kleinburg and Vaughan.

The Olympic Torch reaches its final destination in the city of Brampton where figure skating Olympian Kurt Browning and athletics

A welcome celebration will take place at City Hall Square and will include a welcome message from Aboriginal elder Anthony Templer, local school singers, Aboriginal women’s drum group and dancers from Punjabi Virsa Arts and Culture Academy.

The flame is also scheduled to be transported on an ice hockey sledge and skate a loop by the final Brampton torchbearer. The flame will then be passed to local disabled athlete, twenty-one-year old Ryan Bennett, who will light the cauldron.

Over the weekend, the torch makes its way through 22 towns, will be carried by fourteen Olympians, take a ride in a kayak, transported by horse-drawn carriage and reaches Niagara Falls.
